In celebration of World Sight Day 2024, India Vision Institute extended its efforts to ensure that no one is left behind by bringing vision screening to the remote villages of Kelur, Melur, and Kedamalai in the Bodhamalai Hills of Tamil Nadu. Located at an altitude of 3,600 feet, these villages in Namakkal district often miss out on basic healthcare services. IVI’s initiative brought much-needed eye care to these isolated communities.

IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “Every child matters. We are delighted that we vision screened eleven children and provided corrective glasses to two of them with refractive errors. Our team also screened 129 adults.”

“World Sight Day is a global reminder of the importance of eye health and the necessity to provide access to eye care for everyone,” he noted.

The theme set by International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) for this World Sight Day resonates well with IVI’s Mission.

“For IVI, no individual is too small or insignificant when it comes to eye care. On World Sight Day, our goal also highlights that vision is not just about numbers – it is about the impact on individuals. These children, no matter how small in number, deserve the same attention and care as those elsewhere, because clear vision is key to their future and opportunities,” he added.

The initiative in the Bodhamalai Hills stands as an example of the power of grassroots healthcare solutions. IVI’s teams worked within the community to ensure that the campaign was a success, providing tangible improvements in the lives of those they reached.

IVI has also screened 125,000 schoolchildren across India in the lead-up to World Sight Day, providing corrective glasses to those in need.
