A global meeting of Indigenous people working in eye health and indigenous eye health experts was convened from Darwin on July 22.
When we last wrote to you, the Australian College of Ophthalmology had published a piece on our website – the latest in a series of Indigenous Eye Health pieces we’ve been bringing you over the past year. In Australia, July 5 marks the first day of NAIDOC week – a week held each year to celebrate First Nations histories, cultures, knowledge systems and achievements. It is a fantastic opportunity to connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues and consumers and learn about their cultures. In 2020 we launched our Indigenous Eye Health series during NAIDOC week.

Of course, First Nations peoples live and work across many more countries than Australia – this year we’ll be exploring indigenous eye health activities within our sector across an ever-expanding number of regions.
