The Ridley Eye Foundation has just completed its Spring surgical programme in Nepal. Three camps were run in jumla, Mugu, and Kalinchowk, where we triaged 1630 patients and operated on 285 in the field, with 9 patients referred to base hospital with pre-existing conditions. In 2023 we supported 7 camps triaging a total 5878 patients, with 881 operations in the field. For our glimpse of our work please visit our website or follow us on Instagram @ridleyeyefoundation.

We are also pleased to announce our new ‘As Far as the Eye Can See’ programme with the help of our commercial partner, the ODL Agency, and their aim to deliver ‘positive social change through ethical spending’, helping provide their clients and businesses whilst deliverIng direct social impact in our surgical camps. A tangible example of charitable delivery working in equal partnership with the private sector. If you are interested in being part of business to charity (B2C) social enterprise please contact us on our website.

This is the 75th Anniversary Year of Sir Harold Ridley’s first intra-ocular lens implant which is now the most commonly performed surgical procedure across the world. This year also marks the milestone of over one billion IoL implants globally. His innovation, from which he deliberately derived no financial benefit, offers the chance to restore sight to some of the world’s most impoverished citizens, living in the most remote communities.
