As we approach the end of 2024, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the achievements and milestones we’ve reached together at IAPB. This year has been filled with significant advancements in our mission of ending avoidable sight loss, driven by the commitment and collaboration of our members. We welcomed 24 new members to the IAPB family. Their dedication to improving eye health and preventing blindness is truly inspiring, and we are excited to work alongside them in our shared mission.

One of the standout moments was the success of World Sight Day, which focused on children’s eye health. Our Love Your Eyes campaign expanded its reach, engaging millions globally and emphasising the importance of early eye care interventions. The campaign’s impact was amplified by the introduction of our new mascot, Artie, and the creative Glasses of the Future competition, which saw participation from over 1,000 children worldwide. All thanks to our members for engaging with the campaign.

In June, we hosted the 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE event in Mexico City, our first global gathering in Latin America since 2008. The event was a resounding success, with 400 attendees and 145 speakers from over 40 countries. It provided a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaboration, and accelerating progress towards our 2030 In Sight strategy.

Our advocacy efforts at the United Nations also bore fruit, with significant events and achievements, including the World Sight Day activations at the UN Headquarters and UNICEF offices in New York. These initiatives highlighted the urgent need for policy changes around child eye health and garnered support for a 2026 Global Eye Health Summit.

As we look to 2025, we are excited about continuing our work together. We invite all our members to join us at the upcoming global events, including the 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE event in Nepal. We also urge you to get involved in our plans to curate a Global Summit for Eye Health. These moments will be crucial in driving forward our collective vision for a world where everyone has access to quality eye care.

Thank you to all our members for their support. Your efforts have made 2024 a year of significant progress, and we are eager to see what we can achieve together in the coming year.

We look forward to seeing and working with you in 2025!
