On 7 March 2025, the Kenya Technical Working Group for Eye Health convened at the DoubleTree Hotel, Ngong Road, Nairobi, bringing together key stakeholders in the country’s eye health sector. This meeting provided an important platform for the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) to present on the Global Summit for Eye Health, underscoring Kenya’s role in shaping the global eye health agenda.

Engaging national technical working groups, such as Kenya’s, is critical in ensuring that country-level priorities align with global objectives, fostering policy influence, institutional commitment, and active participation in the lead-up to the summit.

Joy Koech, Head of Inclusive Health Initiatives at CBM and a member of the Political & Institutional Engagement (PIE) group, led the discussion. She provided an overview of the summit, emphasizing its importance in elevating eye health as a critical public health and development issue. Whereas, Kristine Nyabera, Program Officer for Sub-Saharan Africa at IAPB, engaged the group on how Kenya can actively participate. She encouraged stakeholders to:

  • Contribute to the Every Story Counts challenge, amplifying real-world impact stories to strengthen advocacy.

  • Join the 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE event in Nepal, a key milestone towards the Global Summit, where stakeholders will align on strategies to drive eye health commitments.
