This is the 75th Anniversary Year of Sir Harold Ridley’s first intra-ocular lens implant which is now the most commonly performed surgical procedure across the world. This year also marks the milestone of over one billion IoL implants globally. His innovation, from which he deliberately derived no financial benefit, offers the chance to restore sight to some of the world’s most impoverished citizens, living in the most remote communities.
