Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT), Pakistan’s largest provider of free eye care, continues to transform lives through its unwavering commitment to combating blindness and improving visual health. In 2024, LRBT achieved remarkable milestones, expanded its reach, and invested in cutting-edge technology and training programs, solidifying its position as a leader in eye care services. With the support of generous donors, skilled professionals, and strategic partnerships, LRBT remains dedicated to making quality eye care accessible to all, particularly those living in poverty.
LRBT’s impact on patient care in 2024 has been extraordinary, marked by significant milestones in its mission to combat preventable blindness. In June 2024, the organization celebrated treating its 56 millionth patient, a testament to its decades-long dedication to providing quality eye care. Across its 84 facilities, LRBT recorded an impressive 3 million annual visits, ensuring that comprehensive services reached those in need. With 292,516 surgeries conducted in 2024, including cataract and advanced procedures, countless individuals regained their sight and quality of life. Additionally, 7,467 retinal and 26,522 laser procedures were performed in the same period, addressing complex eye conditions and improving patient outcomes. Beyond surgeries, LRBT’s commitment to holistic care includes diagnostic assessments, medication, and follow-up treatments, ensuring long-term visual health for its patients.
To maintain its high standards of care, LRBT invested 153 million rupees in state-of-the-art medical equipment in 2024. This investment ensures that patients, 98% of whom live below the poverty line, receive world-class eye care. Cutting-edge technology enables doctors to perform delicate procedures with precision, improving success rates and patient satisfaction.
LRBT’s excellence in healthcare has been recognized once again:
– Certificate of Excellence: Awarded by the Management Association of Pakistan for the 9th consecutive year, reaffirming LRBT’s commitment to quality care.
– Expanding Reach: With 20 hospitals, 61 clinics, and 3 outreach centers, LRBT ensures that eye care services are accessible to both urban and rural populations.
– Outreach Programs: New initiatives aim to bring eye care services to remote areas, ensuring that even the most marginalized communities have access to care.
In response to rising electricity costs and environmental concerns, LRBT is transitioning its facilities to solar power:
– Mandra and Korangi Hospital are now fully solar-powered, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.
– Future Plans: As funding permits, more hospitals will be equipped with solar energy solutions, reducing operational costs and minimizing LRBT’s carbon footprint.
LRBT’s expertise is now benefiting communities beyond Pakistan through a groundbreaking partnership with COMSTECH: (Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation)
– 14 African Ophthalmologists are receiving one-year specialized training in Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy, two leading causes of blindness worldwide.
– This initiative strengthens international collaboration and equips medical professionals in developing countries with the skills to provide quality eye care.
