Join a powerful, unprecedented alliance for better eye health for all.
Join IAPBCataract remains the leading cause of blindness worldwide, yet many people who undergo surgery do not achieve the vision they deserve.
The need for improvement is clear. The 2022 WHO report covering 63 surveys across 19 countries found that only 17% of those who needed and received surgery achieved 6/12 vision or better. Data from 105 surveys across 55 countries showed that only 25% achieved at least 6/18 vision. These numbers tell us one thing: We must do better.
The primary role of the Cataract Strategy Group is to provide leadership for IAPB members and other stakeholders on priority matters relating to the enabling, dissemination and implementation of the WHO work around cataract quality. This is in line with WHA resolution 73.4 on the requirement for a 30 point increase in effective cataract coverage by 2030.
While the WHO owns the assessment and selection of clinical guidelines regarding the delivering of cataract quality, this Cataract Strategy Group will engage representatives of organizations around the world to support consistent and collaborative implementation of those guidelines. This will include engagement at the national level to advance advocacy that supports clinical best practices and efforts to share data and learning across organizations to efficiently support quality improvement efforts.
The group comprises a diverse cross-section of IAPB members and other organizations actively engaged in cataract programs. Membership is intentionally kept small to enable focused and effective action while ensuring broad representation. If you would like to express your interest to join the group, please contact XXX
