Join a powerful, unprecedented alliance for better eye health for all.
Join IAPBDr Justine Zhang is an ophthalmology trainee and a visiting fellow at the International Centre for Eye Health. We are very pleased to nominate Justine as an Eye Health Hero to acknowledge her tireless efforts contributing to many of the new research studies that underpinned the Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health, published in 2021. For the Commission, Justine led on a very influential review that demonstrated the connection between eye health interventions and advancing the SDGs, and she also contributed to several other reviews and analyses.
Justine also worked with our team to undertake a review of the clinical practice guidelines for cataract that will inform the World Health Organization’s Package of Eye Care Interventions, and subsequently wrote this up as a scientific article. In her work Justine demonstrates dedication, a high willingness and ability to learn, and an enduring positive attitude. Justine is a problem-solver, well organized, reliable, an effective communicator and a great team player with exceptional inter-personal skills. In future, she plans to combine her clinical skills with public health research, and we believe she is set to make important contributions to global eye health. We absolutely regard Justine as a Future Leader in eye health and look forward to watching and supporting her journey.
“I love working with the inspiring team of researchers at ICEH at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, who show remarkable dedication to improving global eye health. Leading a scoping review on how eye health contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals for the Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health has been a highlight. The impact that improving eye health has on wider issues—including education, gender equality, and economic development—shows how we can contribute to complete physical, mental, and social well-being. If we are to make progress toward sustainable development, eye health should be at the forefront.”
