Velux Stiftung

Velux Stiftung aims to contribute to a sustainable positive change for the benefit of humanity. While there are many important and unsolved topics in the supported funding areas (ophthalmology, healthy ageing, daylight research and forestry), Velux Stiftung focuses on ideas or challenges which are relevant but receive too little attention from major funding sources, and/or take an interdisciplinary, outside-of-the-box approach and lack funding opportunities.

Although most people suffering from visual impairment live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), only a limited research effort is focused on their specific challenges. The goal of Velux Stiftung is to ultimately contribute to reduce visual impairments in LMICs by supporting i) projects strengthening research capacity for ophthalmology research in LMICs, ii) research projects on the specific biomedical knowledge gaps in LMICs in relation to the local context and environment.

Velux Stiftung focuses on projects which transfer their discoveries to initiate change and create impact.
