Dr Fabrizio D’Esposito is a public health consultant, an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and the outgoing Chair of the Diabetic Retinopathy Work Group of the IAPB. Fabrizio has more than fifteen years of experience in the development and implementation of health interventions and research projects in resource-constrained settings, with a key focus on non-communicable diseases and eye health. Dr Sarity Dodson is Director of Research, at The Fred Hollows Foundation. The Fred Hollows Foundation undertakes health services research that improves the quality, productivity and accessibility of eye care for those living in low resource settings. Dr Dodson is a health services researcher and behavioural scientist with a particular interest in WASH for trachoma elimination, and enablers of citizen participation in healthcare and behaviors, across settings and cultures. Suzannah is the JLA Adviser for the Diabetic Eye Disease in LMICs PSP. She joined the JLA Team in the UK in April 2019. She has chaired PSPs on Stroke, Psoriatic Arthritis, Community Nursing, Global Burn Injury and Skin Cancer Surgery among others. Suzannah’s background is in social research. During her career, Suzannah has worked in the UK, Canada and Italy. She was Head of Engagement at a social research agency and held the same position at the UK Government’s Central Office of Information (COI). [email protected]
Iris Gordon is an information specialist for Cochrane Eyes and Vision based at Queens University Belfast. She has previously worked on the Sight Loss and Vision PSP and was responsible for searching for evidence to ascertain if the submitted uncertainties had been answered by current available research. She has also provided literature searching support to the following organisations: Fight for Sight, Fred Hollows Foundation, ORBIS, Sightsavers, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Vision Impact Institute and the WHO. Dr Mediya Rangi is a Research Technical Advisor at The Fred Hollows Foundation. She is a socio-cultural anthropologist researcher in public health. Dr Rangi has extensive experience in designing and implementing qualitative research with vulnerable and marginalised groups including ethnic minorities, migrants and refugees, youth, and people with disability, applying an intersectional approach to equity. Dr Rangi is coordinating this Diabetic Eye Disease in LMICs James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership. [email protected]
Cova is a Clinical Research Fellow at the International Centre for Eye Health in London where she has worked in education and research for the past 14 years. She has a particular interest in DR research and programmes. Cova is the technical lead for the Diabetic Retinopathy Network (DR-NET), which includes over 25 DR programmes in 15 LMICs and co-chairs the IAPB DR Working Group. [email protected]

Dr Michael Gichangi is an Ophthalmologist, with training in public health for eye care. He holds the position of Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services and Head of Ophthalmic Services Unit at Ministry of Health-Kenya, where he facilitates and coordinates the implementation of public eye health policies and research. Dr Nyawira Mwangi is Deputy Director, Academic, at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC). She is a medical specialist who works at the intersection of ophthalmology, health systems management and public health. Her PhD thesis focused on service educator and a researcher, and works closely with diabetes support groups in Kenya. She heads the academic department at KMTC, which has 50,000 students in session. Lilian is an ophthalmic clinical officer/cataract surgeon and also has specialist in community eye health. Currently works in Kwale Eye Centre with main interest in Diabetic Retinopathy and research related to the same. Lilian is also a mentor to ophthalmology students in Kenya. Reuben Magoko Carlo is a person of integrity and humour, a community mobiliser. Born 75 years ago, educated to secondary “O” level. He is the National Chairman/Founder of Kenya Defeat Diabetes Association (KDDA). Former lead project and focal person in Fred Hollows Foundation DR project in Migori/Baringo counties; DM Patients Empowerment Lead; WDF14-863 Project Diabetes Awareness and Peer Education Treasure; PCEA MT Kenya Region Health Board, just to mention a few. Dr Telaite Biu is a Fijian Ophthalmologist with a special interest in tackling Diabetic Retinopathy in Pacific Island countries. She currently works at the Pacific Eye Institute in Fiji, an initiative of the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ that train eye health professionals in eradicating avoidable blindness in the Pacific. Komal is the Pacific Programme Manager for the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. For the Foundation she was the lead manager of the Trust DR Project in Tackling Diabetic Retinopathy in the Pacific, responsible for the implementation of the DR programme in partnership with ministries of health, which covered the prevention of Diabetic Retinopathy, treating Diabetic Retinopathy and understanding Diabetic Retinopathy in the region. Ms. Rashin Choudhry an experienced program development advisor at The Fred Hollows Foundation in Australia. She began working with The Foundation in 2004. In her current role, she is responsible for designing, developing, monitoring and evaluating high quality eyecare projects. She has experience in developing comprehensive eye care projects including diabetic retinopathy, school screening and pediatric. She has more than 18 years of experience in international development and eye health issues across 25 countries in Africa, the Pacific, Asia and Indigenous Australia. [email protected]
Dr Alemayehu Woldeyes Tefera is a consultant ophthalmologist and subspecialist on community eye health. He is medical director in Go-Far Vision Specialized Eye Clinic. He practices for the last 20 yrs. as a clinician, writer, advisor, manager, leader, advocate for quality health care in Ethiopia and ECSA Africa. He got International Education Award from American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dec 2020. He is Fellow of COECSA and international member of advisory panel for middle east and Africa at AAO. Jissa is Knowledge Manager at the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). Her core interests include developing educational programs and partnership building to effect change. She currently helps the agency’s efforts in capability development and knowledge sharing and works with wide range of stakeholders. Prior to IAPB, she was leading knowledge programs particularly continuing education programs for eye health professionals in India for over 10 years.
