With a strong focus on inclusivity, innovation, and collaborative problem-solving, Mehran has dedicated his career to building resilient, patient-centered eye care systems in Pakistan and beyond.
Since joining SIOVS in 2017, Mehran has implemented pioneering projects that directly contribute to the advancement of global eye health. Under his leadership, SIOVS adopted the Peek software-powered solution, which has expanded comprehensive eye care services across Sindh province. This initiative set a new standard for integrating technology into public health by enhancing accessibility and providing real-time data for decision-making. Mehran’s systems-thinking approach led him to develop hospital management systems for various ophthalmology clinics, transforming care delivery through streamlined processes that meet the unique needs of eye care patients.
In his collaboration with CBM International Pakistan, Mehran played a key role in developing eye health programs across rural and urban communities. His implementation of the Heavy Vehicle Driver Eye Screening Clinic, Community Eye Screening, Door-to-Door Eye Screening, and School Eye Screening projects empowered local communities with access to essential eye care. These programs, powered by Peek technology and supported by SIOVS, have screened hundreds of thousands of individuals, connecting those in need to appropriate care through an extensive network of health facilities. Mehran’s training of over 800 healthcare workers has ensured sustained success of these initiatives, creating a scalable model that resonates with the IAPB’s vision for systems change.
A highlight of Mehran’s achievements is his role in deploying Peek Capture technology in more than 5,700 schools, establishing connections to over 80 health facilities and transforming eye health access for young populations. This network screened over 1.3 million people and referred more than 150,000 individuals to specialized care, reflecting Mehran’s dedication to impactful, community-centered healthcare. His contributions have earned recognition from Pakistan’s National Committee for Eye Health as a district model, underscoring his influence on the future of eye health in Pakistan and beyond.
Beyond his technical expertise, Mehran’s work in safeguarding has been instrumental. In 2023, he developed and implemented a safeguarding policy at SIOVS, personally training over 300 healthcare staff to create safe, inclusive healthcare environments. His innovative integration of the Washington Group of Questionnaires within SIOVS’s Hospital Management Information System has further emphasized inclusivity, positioning SIOVS as Pakistan’s first public eye institute to adopt this approach.
Globally, Mehran’s contributions to refining Peek software have enhanced its functionality, and his impact has extended to over 13 countries where the software is now used. Recognized by SMPF for his contributions to open-source data mining, Mehran’s commitment to technology innovation continues to set new standards for data-driven, inclusive eye care.
