This problem is more acute in low and middle-income countries due to lack of access, poor advocacy, inadequately skilled manpower and insufficient health financing. Vision rehabilitation helps in mitigating many of the negative consequences of low vision including independence and employment. In addition to individuals and families, the countries too are impacted by virtue of consequences on GDP. While evidence suggests, that up to 90% of people with visual impairment can potentially benefit from services, current utilization is limited to less than 10% – 15% in parts of the world where the need is most. This important service is deficient in most parts of South- East Asia.
