Join IAPBPakistan has made tremendous progress in developing eye care services since Vision2020. However, avoidable blindness remains an important public health problem.1 The Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) conducted in two districts under this project found the prevalence of blindness in Swabi district was 4.2%, while in Mansehra it was 1.8%, with cataract and refractive error the most common causes of blindness and visual impairment in both districts. In Swabi district, prevalence of blindness was significantly higher among women. In both districts, unaffordability, fear and lack of perceived need were the major reasons for not having undergone cataract surgery.
